Experiences of Field and Laboratory Experiments
1. Optical fiber sensor for the subsurface environment monitoring
A. Distributed temperature sensor:
(1) Purpose: Use the optical fiber cable to measure the temperature profile in a borehole.
(2) Experience: I am responsible for developing the DTS experimental site at Nantou County in last June. And I have coordinated the joint experiment for infiltration investigation in the unsaturated zone based on the DTS and ERT surveys.
B. Fiber Bragg grating sensors:
(1) Purpose: Use the optical fiber Bragg grating sensors to measure the profiles of temperature, deformation, and pore water pressure measurements in a borehole.
(2) Experience: I have proposed an in situ thermal project that will be conducted in the beginning of this Jan., and several FBG arrays will be installed in the contaminated site in Taoyuan County in this March in my proposed EPA project.
2. System design for multi-phase flow experiments based on transparent micro-model
I am experienced in the development of the transparent micro-model by using Acrylic and laser engraving machine as well as the system design for the multi-phase flow experiments.

1. Wei-Chi Chen; MS student, working on the development of a robust aquifer parameter calibration system based on the expert system and groundwater simulation model; 2006-2008.
2. Yun-Chih Wang; MS student, working on the development of a robust net-recharge calibration system based on the expert system and groundwater simulation model; 2008-2010. The study result has been published in Journal of the Chinese Institute of Civil & Hydraulic Engineering, 2015.
3. Kuo -Sheng Hsu; MS student, working on improving the efficiency of dynamically dimensional search method and employing it on the net recharge estimation for the Choshui River Alluvial Fan, 2010-2012. The study result has been published in Taiwan Water Conservancy, 2015, and won the annual outstanding paper award.
4. Helen Lin; MS student, working on the estimation of heterogeneous hydraulic conductivity field by fusion of pumping test and 1D electric sounding measurements, and we employed it on the Choshui River Alluvial Fan, 2011-2013. The result has been published in Journal of the Chinese Institute of Civil & Hydraulic Engineering, 2013 and won the annual outstanding paper award.
5. Yu Tien Wang; MS student, working on the development of groundwater modeling support system based on service-oriented architecture, 2013-2015. The result has been published in Journal of Chinese Agriculture Engineering, 2017.
